November 7, 2007
This report focuses on the activities of the Foundation during the fiscal year of April 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. It was, yet again, a busy year for Campaign. We continued to re-evaluate who we are and where we should go by restructuring ourselves to organize our work more efficiently and to allow our focus to continue on creating a public awareness of the Campaign for Kids Foundation, while raising funds for those children in Kings County who need our assistance.
Special/ On Going Projects
The Foundation continued its support of the Keep Kids Safe Program run by Agency Staff for disadvantaged kids during the summer. Through generous support from Michelin, Campaign provided funding for the Circle Circus Program offered through the Kentville and Area Youth Association and provided it’s critical financial support of the activities of the Agency quarterly.
We continued on with our annual fund raising efforts with our Charity Golf Classic taking place on September 15, 2006 at the Berwick Heights Golf course and with the support of Michelin completed our letter campaign to faithful donors in November of 2006.
We entered into a new partnership with the Kingstec Campus of the Nova Scotia Community College V Link group. They offered their support by conducting two fund raisers for Campaign and raising over $900.00. The Foundation created a significant awareness to the College students about Campaign for Kids and we are hopeful that we can continue to build on this partnership in the future.
The Board explored new and more effective ways to do business, to spread the work responsibilities out to the entire Board membership and to offer volunteers options of involvement with Campaign, in the hopes of attracting committed people to become involved. The restructuring of the meetings and Board of Directors responsibilities work will continue on in the next fiscal year. As part of that work to restructure and obtain assistance at the Board of Director’s level, it was agreed that the Foundation would move in the direction of hiring a Communications Coordinator on a monthly honorarium to assist with administrative functions of the Board as well as to carry out the Communications Plan and move us forward in the area of public awareness through website development and media support and material, along with fund raising and grant writing.
Financial Reporting:
We had a number of firsts in this fiscal year, including issuing our first charitable receipt and our first return filing with the Canada Revenue Agency. We are “off to the races” as they say and getting some excellent advise from our Treasurer, Anne Nickerson, CA. She has filed a separate financial report for our meeting and I will defer any financial business to her.
Future Directions:
We continue to search for county wide representation at the Board of Directors table and create key contacts and support in those areas currently unrepresented. We will continue to look at our new Board structure, develop more policy around processes for granting funding requests etc and look at our fund raising events and capacity to increase the amount of funds raised over a given fiscal year.
Special Acknowledgments:
Every year it seems that I am thanking the same organizations and individuals who contribute to the success of Campaign. These are true partnerships of Campaign and we are ever grateful to them for their continued support. Our thanks are extended to the staff at the Kentville Branch of Scotiabank,
and Michelin for the outstanding support provided by Grant and his team both in terms of dollars and human resources.
Every year we recognize all of our Charity Golf sponsors, golfers and other supporters who make one of our major fund raising events so successful every year.
I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the hard work of the Agency staff, lead by their Executive Director Bob Myles, for the work done in the trenches everyday to provide such a valuable service to the children in Kings County that need it the most.
I must mention our serving Board of Directors, the back bone of the Foundation who make the day to day decisions, create the opportunities for fund raising and get their hands “dirty” raising awareness and funds.
Finally, our thanks to those who support Campaign from afar with financial donations and other contributions that remained unnamed in this report.
Respectfully Submitted,
Laurie Wanamaker
